Information for New Patients

Welcome to Southside Psychiatry

We are a private outpatient psychiatric clinic offering high-quality, evidence-based care for adults experiencing a range of mental health difficulties. Whether you're seeking support for mood, anxiety, attention, or other psychiatric concerns, our approach is collaborative, respectful, and tailored to your needs.

Getting Started

To begin:

  1. Complete your patient intake form (you will receive a link after your referral).

  2. Book your appointment online at:

If you have difficulty booking online, please contact us — we are happy to assist by phone.

General Psychiatry Patients

If you have been referred for a general psychiatric concern, your care will begin with a one-hour initial assessment, either in person or online (if attending the clinic is not feasible).

What to Expect:

  • We will discuss your mental health history, current symptoms, and relevant physical or lifestyle factors.

  • Previous treatments or medications will be reviewed.

  • You’ll receive a clear explanation of our clinical understanding and any proposed diagnosis.

  • A treatment plan will be developed with your input.

Ongoing Care:

  • If clinically appropriate, we may recommend medication and will explain all options clearly.

  • We will prescribe and monitor medication directly, with regular follow-ups as needed.

  • Appointments can be scheduled at intervals that reflect your treatment needs.

ADHD Assessment and Treatment

If you have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis:

  • You will have a one-hour treatment suitability assessment.

  • We will review your clinical history and discuss whether stimulant or non-stimulant treatment is appropriate.

  • If stimulant medication is recommended, we are required to contact your GP before prescribing.

If you do not have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis:

  • You will start with a general psychiatric assessment.

  • If ADHD is suspected, we will refer you to a trusted independent provider who will complete:

    • ADHD rating scales

    • Collateral history

    • The DIVA diagnostic interview

🧾 Important: The ADHD diagnostic assessment is carried out by a separate service. You will pay them directly — this cost is not included in your Southside Psychiatry fee.

If a diagnosis is confirmed and treatment is appropriate, we will take over your care for prescribing and ongoing review.

2. Consent and Confidentiality

  • You must provide consent before any treatment.

  • You may withdraw consent at any time.

  • We will share information with your GP unless you opt out (except when prescribing controlled drugs, where GP notification is compulsory).

  • You will be fully informed about all treatment options and supported in making decisions.

4. Prescriptions and Monitoring

  • Regular reviews are required to continue any prescribed medication.

5. Shared Care with the NHS

  • If your condition is stable, we may request that your GP takes over prescribing. If declined, private prescriptions will continue through our clinic.
