Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Malcolm Cameron, MBCHB, MRCPsych

I graduated from Glasgow University in 1996.

After a year of working in psychiatry in Australia, I went through the West of Scotland training scheme. I became a consultant in 2005, originally in liaison psychiatry specialising in the overlap between medical and psychiatric illness. I am accomplished in prescribing psychotropic medication in those with significant co-morbid medical and mental health conditions. I am experienced in the treatment of depression and anxiety. I have a post graduate diploma in CBT and believe in examining lifestyle including nutrition, sleep and exercise as the first step to recovery.

I currently work as consultant in a perinatal psychiatry service within an NHS role, and have expertise in the treatment of mental health problems and psychotropic medication advice in pregnancy. I was involved in the national SIGN guidelines advising on treatment of perinatal mood disorders.

I am also working as consultant psychiatrist with the NHS Ayrshire and Arran Staff Wellbeing Service, supporting staff with a variety of mental health issues from depression, anxiety to neurodiversity.

I have worked part time within the private sector for the past 5 years, and within that time have developed a keen interest in treating adults with ADHD.

I have significant experience in the assessment of capacity and related medico-legal issues such as Guardianships and Power of Attorney assessments.

In my spare time, I play squash, go the gym and enjoy country walks with my cockapoo Penny.
